A short history of The North Face

qUINT-lifestyle_u21-tnf1.jpg

Douglas and Susie Tompkins established The North Face in 1966. Both of these eager adventurers and exploders came from San Francisco. Their many adventures required proper equipment and clothing. This eventually lead to the establishment of The North Face.

The name is inspired by the north face of every mountain; known to be the most difficult to climb. The name was a perfect fit for the Tompkins’ business idea – clothing of the best quality that could withstand all kinds of weather – for mountain climbing and difficult terrain. The North Face became especially well known for their jackets, which among other things, are used by people when climbing mountains like Mount Everest, which is known for its merciless conditions and hard cold, or Cape Pillar, whose unstable terrain it is also a milestone for many adventurers.

The North Face 1990 Mountain Jacket and The North Face 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket have been worn in many major expeditions and trips around the world because of their durability, breathability, waterproof material and other details.

The North Face first became a well-established brand in the fashion world in 2000. No longer the sole choice of people who enjoyed extreme sport and athletes, now the brand was the choice of people in the fashion world who appreciated technical materials and eye-catching colours.

In recent decades, The North Face has collaborated with major fashion icons, who have helped to make the brand one of the biggest in streetwear culture. For example, Supreme New York carried out many different collaborations with the products, including The North Face Base Camp Duffel Bag, The North Face 1985 Mountain Jacket and The North Face 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket.
